LAST PAGE.

A blog post about the toughest fashion-related experience in a shopping mall loved by many polytechnic dragon boaters and closeted gay muscle maries. When you think shopping was easy, that only applies to shopping at the Hilton or/and ION. I did a ‘trial-internship’ with a magazine last week and I thought it didn’t go as well as I want it to be. I was given a task of doing a product shoot and I was thinking, “ okay, Jil and DVNplus a dash of Marni will do”, and then came the worst part which was; To source at insert shopping mall, Think Megan Fox and Angelina Jolie. (If you’ve been on par with RCFA, you will know that Momma Jolie only wear black, as for Megan, the less is more.) I died. Not in RZ way but died, dead and not living anymore. All that Jil-DVN shit down the drain.

There were approximately ten shops (if not less, because some were closed) selling women’s apparel, two were okay and the rest are meant for Hello Kitty’s mom. I spent over eight hours on both days just to source for the stuff! Pfft.

The week after, at the studio, my assignment was a failure. Of course, I too didn’t like half of the things I picked. Not that it was a shocking revelation or whatever but it was simply expected. One of my life’s motto is ‘I don’t invest in things I don’t understand’, because if I did, it will turned out bad and unfortunately, I had to.

All I’m hoping for now is that this will turn out better than the last contributor’s page. That is all.

HEY MICKEY YOU'RE SO STRESSED.

You guessed it! The pictures above have nothing to do with this post. Well, maybe it conveys the hallucinatory state that I’m in, you know, stress. (Sean O’pry is thatshu?)

Tomorrow being the start of tutorial break, I thought I would update you on the past months. Discussing this might get me in trouble again but at least I could refer to this in the future when writing a memoir that you obviously won’t have.
I don’t have to be a psychic to know my future for this coming semester. I still remember that day, year one semester two when you ratted on me. You told the whole panel that you’ve never seen my work ever. I wonder if you would have done the same if you didn’t know that I was the one who ‘lead’ the complaint.

Three years later, nothing changed. I was criticized about being a blogger and was constantly reminded that I am an amateur in this industry (yes, referring to the style: august article). “ You can’t barely walk, you want to run. I’ve been in this industry longer than you, working for big companies blabalbalbalabla. Anyone can say anything on the Internet but, that does not mean they know everything”. My only question was… “And you’re still here teaching me, an amateur because? Oh yeah, you’re too great for Milan. Paris can’t afford you because of your amazing experience.”

If I give you an image, you asked for ten images. When I showed you ten, you said one is better then ten. Somehow you manage to find loopholes to accuse me of being ‘smart’. Sometimes I wonder if you really know what you’re talking about, blabbering about Yohji Yamamoto and Westwood for the whole of two hours.

In this day and age, professionalism no longer exists, only sarcasm. Oh, need I count the number of times you walk out of the class for hours and never came back? Why not correct our mistakes instead of stomping out the class and spend lesser time degrading us.


I’m not satisfied with my sportswear design project because I feel that I was forced into a direction that is against my own esthetic ( I try my best to incorporate some of mine into my work). This project was restricted to of his likings. For god sake, please stop ruining my design by adding pockets and ribbons please.

I’ve been really looking forward to class (lately); I learnt more technical skills, which makes lesson even more enjoyable. I guess lessons should be that way, lecturers gives us the foundation and improve on it. The downside, I’ve been sick a lot this month. I’m on a new medication for my skin and side effects is bound to occur so I guess it’s normal.

SHOOT WITH COLIN WEE.

I can't stop talking. I'm still star-struck, I can't help it. Colin Wee-- The face of DKNY Times Square ad campaign was the photographer for yesterday's shoot.

I've never mention him to anyone but I mimicked his lips in the mirror ( didn't look half as good )and make collages with his pictures. No one could touch my magazine because he's on the cover, or in the pages inside.That was high school, he was my male model muse.

It was like meeting Madonna.
Enough.
Moving on.

Yesterday was a celebration of our teamwork, me and Ridhwan. A new beginning to everything exciting!

+9 PHOTO SHOOT, BEHIND THE SCENES.

Finally, my first 'art director' slash styling gig. Proposing this idea for MYKROMAG was a risk, i didn't have any experience in pulling a team for a shoot, i had no contacts and no capital to begin with. I start from scratch. I had the idea in my head for sometime, a month actually, to plan. It was rushed at the very last minute because everyone decide to pull out, studios wasn't available and i had to form a team a day before the shoot itself.Tragic.

Test-shoots are like experimenting with new stuff, you either make or break. I'm neutral about the result. Despite it being a mini-scale one, i think the result was rather impressive, doesn't look amateurish one bit. It could have been better with the right casting and concept. Maybe next time.

Thank you team, for turning up at the very last minute and for being really cooperative throughout the shoot. I really appreciate it and ill promise a organized shoot next time!

MYKROMAG ON STYLE BUBBLE.

Ahwile ago checking my Facebook, I got few comments from both Sonny and Jean Paul. He alerted me on Susie bubble's ( or is it spelt with a double 's' after the 'u'?) latest blog post. She mentioned:

Two talents they've highlighted in the first issue of Mykromag are illustrators, Dinie Rahman and Ridhwan Sesapar both based in Singapore, sharing a very similar aeshetic... no surprise that it's their rendition of Giles' S/S 09 Pac-Man helmet that caught my eye.

You guys have to check out the entry. She was spot on, introducing the editors and explaining the 'saga' of the Jak & Jil Watchmen photo. All and all, great team effort by MYKROMAG on the amazing first issue!

MYKROMAG ISSUE 001 2009.

Approximately 2-3 years ago, I was approached to contribute for a magazine. Then, it was only a young man's vision. I can still vaguely recall them, they were Sonny, Jean Paul and Majid. I had to turn that down,supposedly because i was ' weaning' and inexperience.

Ridhwan has amazing flow of creativity and talent while i was conceptual and structured. We never have the same opinion and we would disagree over everything. Which, is my opinion makes a great team.We became sort of like a dynamic duo and vow to strive to get where we want to be, together. Venturing solo is not even a choice anymore.We tried very hard to push our work and thankfully it didn't take long for us to get involve in fashion and publication.

We were given two main opportunity by a publication/magazine. An established one, and the other was still a vision. One would boost our income and just sweep us aside after the hype (probably because we're young) and another, allow us to get involve in the process,allowing us to learn and grow together with they product they're producing. We choose to go with the one that believed in our work and provide endless opportunity.

It nothing much, but being involved in it since the first stage makes me really proud of this particular work. Of course, none of this would be possible without my talented partner and the team.

A DAY IN THE MOTHERSHIP.

This post is dedicated to The Vogueite.

As if it’s not funny enough for us to be introduced via chatroom, his cybername was VOGUE and mine was PRORSUM. We were still in high school, probably still wearing Nike high-cuts, doing push-ups before recess and swear by reading STYLE: magazine daily during silent reading session. Both of us were into fashion but we didn’t’ know much back then. Fashion was like an escape from manhood.

How touching.

Anyway, I met up with him the other day with the reliable photographer, Ridhwan (thank you so much!) for some impromptu shoot. Despite the weather being unpredictably f-up, the shoot went pretty well and the result was awesome despite not having much equipment and natural lighting. The concept was very literal and direct, to emphasize on the shoulder piece he designed, made up of pre-loved jeans. The garment was awesome, very conceptual.
