BRAND NEW HEAVIES, style: AUGUST 2009.

The photographer bestfriend (that’s his new title since he was mentioned in Strait Times Urban) Ridhwan, likes to do foolish thing and embarrasses me in the public. He just had to do that when our picture was taken! There was passerby mind you! I’m shameless most of the time but he never fails to make me blush! Just what I need after a long run down orchard road trying to get our hands on the August Issue of style: magazine! We were told that it’s going to be a spread but we didn’t expect it to be so huge!

So huge, that my mum had to whore the article at the park across our home. Like as if her Indonesian and Pilipino maid friends would care about my existence in a magazine.Hah. Maybe they can look at Colin Wee instead.

On that note, style: is my favorite local magazine ever but I’ve stop buying since Daniel left. In my opinion it was more personal then and in every Editor’s Note column he wrote, I feel like I was part of style: journey. Now, stories are getting better, very informative and most importantly current.

I beg you to buy the latest copy of style: and make it the best-selling issue ever! (Don’t forget to email style:, you’re buying because of us, not Joanne Peh. Haha) I’ve managed to convince my mum to get all the mature audiences to buy! (they might get another one if it comes with a free gift!)

Finally thanks to the style: team; Sharon, Lena, Leef and the friends who made it happen, Carlos and Nisa! Also, X-wen did a post on our feature and OneSixtyNotepad on her blog! Lastly thanks to Ridhwan, you’re the best thing ever! Yes, I'm really sweet, i know.

WOODS & WOODS A/W 09- STRANGER THAN FICTION.

The show started one and a half hour late (if not two hours) with the clothes arriving ten minutes after the show was supposed to begin. RESUSCITATION presentation was divided into 3 parts – ‘ WOODS & WOODS A/W 09 – Stranger than fiction’, ‘look back away from the glare’ and ‘ WOODS & WOODS n Work Wardrobe Installation’.
Lights dimmed, what seems to be some sort of Gregorian chant was playing in the background; like an aggressive poetry or a sermon.

The pieces were rather innovative in a sense that every single design on garments was new but not awkward-looking. I particularly liked the J-stitch style line running across diagonally on the coat’s front. The silhouette too was interesting; it has an actual boxy/column figure with an illusion of an hourglass silhouette. It was simply the choice of two or more different fabrics and patchwork used on a single garment, creating an illusion that it takes in on the waist or empire.
Pants were worn high, with belt holes placed lower below the waistline creating that paper-bag-tulip effect, defining the back. The zippers were exposed, without any zipper flaps to cover.

The collection was very masculine, using felt-like Russian fabrics; the clever cuts and added details such as dart soften the whole look. The pants would looks too solid with no movement if not for the double darts or gathers at the back.
There wasn’t much singles, mostly outers or bottoms and hats. I guess the economy too has it influences on designer to create investment pieces. I really like the collection as a whole, casting, styling, and the simple settings for the show was really appropriate.

WOODS & WOODS A/W 09, RECEPTION.

Partnering with WOODS & WOODS, the people at Asia Pacific Breweries (commonly known as Tiger Beer) invited both Ridhwan and me for WOODS & WOODS A/W 09-10 show.
By collaborating with the show, Tiger Beer hopes to reach out to wider audiences with their campaign of ‘Get Your Sexy Back’—A youth-led moderate drinking programme that reaches out to young adults of today, encouraging them to practice moderate and responsible drinking.

The location was at Mohamed Sultan (same location as SFW), an invite-only event that was packed with industry (and empire building) people, friends and the usual party-crashers club kids. Like any other events I’ve been to, I had to struggle with the ‘blogger’ status. Asia Pacific Breweries had us on the front row and the people behind us were clearly not happy about it knowing that we’re ‘just bloggers’. It’s the same plastic chair; it shape, same density and probably made in the same china factory, why the hell are you bitching? You’re at the back and I’m in the front, Michael Jackson is dead, deal with it! I hate it when I have to deal with such hierarchy issues. It’s not where u sit or if your eyeliner is thicker than mine, it’s about how u get the collection!

After the show, we had one on one time with the designer. He was very soft-spoken and reserved but he went on explaining about his collection….. Until two girls rudely interrupted our session and he ran out of the building. Oh yes, I did an interview (which I hope you won’t see) with a media person; thank god for alcohol, I wasn’t nervous!
It’s not the drinking, it’s how you’re drinking!

COUTURE FALL 2009 HIGHLIGHTS.

We’ll ever see anything like Christian Dior Fall Couture 2006 ever again--It was the most impressive collection to date. To see no Anna on Couture week and seeing no red at Valentino, this season was disappointing.

Lacroix was expected not to show this season, but he did. A shows with a story to tell but it was mediocrity that he presented.
Im baffled, Givenchy looking a little like Theysken, the only thing that could relate to Tisci’s esthetic was studs and more metal studs to follow. Speaking of copycats, the obvious was Elie Saab with an all-white show, it was beautiful. Karl Lagerfeld did that at the same exact location where Saab showed his Fall Couture.

I love what Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli did at Valentino. The workmanship that went to each individual piece was impressive, despite it not looking anything like Valentino. Yes, I won’t discuss Chanel.
