PRESSED BY MAX TAN SPRING SUMMER 2010 AD CAMPAIGN.

Singapore, we’ve got our very own Martin Cohn. Gracing the ad of Max Tan’s latest campaign was fellow MYKROMAG contributor, Luth Seah Zhiqiang. No surprise that Ashburn Eng’s current model muse landed himself an ad campaign following the success of the previous collaboration.

“I thought Luth was a good representation of Max’s brand, he believed in his clothes”- Ashburn Eng.

Need more convincing? Luth excruciatingly went through a process of hair and brow bleaching four times prior to shooting this ad. And posing under the unforgiving Singapore sun at marina barrage… If that’s not dedication, I don’t know what it. Tyra would be proud.

I hate to say it but, i told you so!

''This campaign celebrates our heritage and our timeless Burberry icons. The energy of the images and the dynamic cast reflect the different attitudes and expressions of the Burberry guy and girl.

We've worked again with Emma Watson who has a classic, effortless beauty and is incredibly talented. Alongside Emma we have four British guys; Emma's younger brother Alex Watson, Matt Gilmour, Max Hurd and George Craig.

We always talk about how much fun we have making these images and I wanted to capture some of the excitement that you feel on set when all these different creative attitudes and personalities come together. Mario has shot these as both stills and video so we can share some of that energy with a wider audience”.

THE 'VERY INDIVIDUAL' & 'ECLECTIC'.

Have you read Susie Bubble’s epic-est post? And excuse me guy in the second picture what are you doing with your jacket? Okay, ‘very individual’ and ‘eclectic people’ I get it. So much truth in both Susie’s post and Mr. Kellmen-Carlen’s email; about the theory that level of eccentricity = level of arrogance, and about the practicality of an outfit.

Let’s just talk about the scene in Singapore as I’ve yet to explore beyond our tiny island. Let me remind everyone that these claims might not necessarily be facts, but they are based on personal experience.

And if I may add my enmity to a certain object: Snarling at every picture, whoring yourself at model mayhem and designing a mess of fringes and bold shoulders are ‘very individual’ indeed. Its tragic that people think we’re related/share the same father.

Am I the only who thinks stereotyping is happening amongst our ‘fashionable’ youth? I honestly think it’s fine because (again, based on experienced) the theory is somewhat true. Like how the ‘very individual’ or ‘eclectic’ youth from art/fashion institution or those are rich will give the less ‘fashionable’ THE look. From THE look you know they are VERY AWARE of their ‘individuality’ and thinks that the less ‘fashionable’ individual is trash.

I once compliment on a ‘very individual’ and ‘eclectic’ person, “wow, you’re so fashionable.” His reply was, “Fashionable? Ugh insulting.”

“Fashion has turned into cries for attention than practicality”- it’s sad. How many ‘very individual’ or ‘eclectic’ or said fashion students/club kids have made any contributions to the industry besides diluting the meaning of fashion to the upcoming generation of designers/journalist/stylist etc?

When I attend events and come across the same bunch of kids, I’ll smile. I’m happy wearing only tees and shirts, I don’t think I have to show or prove my love for fashion. For me, fashion is self-fulfillment and a fantasy, its okay to share but it’s so wrong to flaunt. (Especially when you got nothing) I’ve been on that ‘very individual’ path too, but I realized it’s a waste of energy. I think you my friend, am trying to hard.

BRODARTE- RODARTE FOR MEN.

Do you think the sisters will adopt me and make me the next Tavi after this post? Priced at approximately $3874 each (Final sale price, hello trip to Paris!), I must make them adopt me to wear one of these. Made of 57% superkid mohair, alpaca, nylon, wool, polyester, metal polyester, silk, viscose, rayon (that is more ingredient than my regular subway sandwich) and hand knit, no wonder it cost a bomb.

I guessed if learn to knit… hmm. Ready, get set, Google!

MOVING-OUT MAGAZINES.

Magazines sparked my interest in fashion. Eh no, I think it was that lady who owns a shop at Holland Village; she likes to wear fur coat (yes, in Singapore) and Cirque du Soleil make up while attending to my mum. Okay maybe that develop my liking for drag queens but I’m very certain that magazines were the reason why I like fashion. Magazines sparked my interest in fashion. Period.

Anyhow while packing my magazines for the new home, I kinda shed tears. Browsing at the archive, oh how much I’ve grown from teeney-booper reads to Vogue. My first Fashion Magazine (Stole it from my art class. I put it to good use OK! It’s not like as if the soccer-playing boys will read Vogue anyways.) was Australian Vogue March 2002. I think some pretty Revlon-looking model was on the cover. My first thoughts’ looking at Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2002 collection was: ‘Are they the designers for Posh Spice’. I know right, those prints, so vintage Mrs. Beckham. I thought it was tragic.

Soon I start buying local fashion Magazine (style: issue 34) , I thought International magazines were too costly since I only get five dollars per day allowance. (I live right across my school and a burger cost a dollar) I had to not eat for a day (usually Fridays) to buy magazines. Style:men, a biyearly magazine that come free with style: was my favorite. On the cover was a pretty model in Gucci/ Louis Vuitton and on the inside, Colin Wee’s DKNY ad campaign. There, I had my first ‘wants’; it was Louis Vuitton Damier Monogram Teddy Bear Brooch.

Thinking about the past makes me so emotional! I used to hide my magazines and read it underneath my desk during psychics or chemistry. I still remember the day my teacher scream at me and said, “ You will never be successful and your work will never end up on those pages if you don’t pass your science! ”. He even put me out the class for a month. You know what, I’m having the last laugh because my work and me are now there.

The power of having dreams and working towards it, it’s fulfilling. Magazine are not just glossy pages, they are textbook to your future! Go magazines go! Fuck you ten-year series!

THE PLAN, 2010.

I haven’t really explained much on how I got the name ONESIXTYNOTEPAD and after months, I finally got a picture of the inspiration behind this blog. ONESIXTYNOTEPAD refers to the price of the notepad where I would draft scribbles about the things I want to write. The pen that I write with has to be a Uni Laknock 1.4 and that’s my blogging station.

Anyway.

I started blogging years ago for one simple reason: To improve my language and practice writing. (I went from an E-grade to second in class thankfully.) I loved fashion all along but Glam Publisher Network gave me the opportunity to contribute for them. This lead to that and blabla, I unintentionally set up a fashion blog (Not referring to OSN) while documenting my life in fashion school.

ONESIXTYNOTEPAD was labeled as the ‘bitchy’ one or the most opinionated (a preferred adjective) in the local blogsphere and I’m totally okay with it because it is what it is. I have no problem talking about the PR that was rude to me or about an event that failed. If you want the real deal, then read ONESIXTYNOTEPAD. If you want to see a coated review, I’m sorry to disappoint you, this is not the place. I refuse to be pretentious with my content (or bribe for your readership) but now that this blog is becoming more and more commercialized, I’m trying to find a balance of both. The personality of this blog won’t fade and I will still say what I have to say.

Despite what you might have heard from that unofficial ambassador of ONESIXTYNOTEPAD, about me try to build an empire out of this humble blog is simply not true. I’ve been planning this for sometime now, since I’ve started this blog and it is really time for me to invite people in to ONESIXTYNOTEPAD. It’s time for me to really focus on school, family and start doing what I love to do.

It is unclear to how I plan to let the blog grow, still at its early stage of discussion. One thing for sure, I will never abandon this space as this blog kept my dreams alive.

LANVIN HOMME- LUCAS OSSENDRIJVER.

Another ‘first-to-see’ collection for every men’s fashion week is Lanvin. While many know Alber Elbaz as the successor behind present Lanvin, the designer of men’s ready-to-wear is Lucas Ossendrijver.

Previously, Ossendrijver worked for Dior Homme with Hedi Slimane—Yeah, that collection that everyone raved about. With the success of Dior Homme, he soon joined Lanvin in ’05.

Lanvin Homme has its own identity, like how I think Miu Miu Homme, Burberry or Dries does, it is unique in its own way and you will never mistaken it for a Dunhill or a Zegna.

There is so many things that I need in life; a trench from Burberry, A bag from Hermes, a silk tie from dries but there are too many that I need from Lanvin; Let’s start with the beaded sneakers.
