CLUB BERSHKA LAUNCH PARTY 1.

Spanish tycoon Amancio Ortega, the same people who brought us Zara introduced us to another of his many flagship chain stores, Bershka. Bershka officially opens its first outlet (in Singapore) at ION.

The Director of Communications of RSH limited (the company which exports the Spanish Fashion Label to Asia) greeted me and she gave a brief talk about the brand and the event’s agenda. Explaining the chains of stores they represent in Singapore.

No shopping vouchers or goodie bags this time; the event was focused on the clothes of Bershka. The presentation was spot on in giving us the Bershka vibe – young, hip and all that rave. Price range was appropriate to suit its target market, say, one vest cost about SGD39.

Be sure to drop by Bershka, #B2/09/10/11 at ION Orchard.

UNIQLO, ION ORCHARD OFFICIAL OPENING.

Yesterday was the unveiling of UNIQLO’s FW 09 Collection and the introduction of faux leather called NEOLEATHER. You know, the one with my identical twin brother Sean O’pry. Yeah, that one.

Media Flair Communications, a public relation company invited OneSixtyNotepad and readers, to have the first look at the collection, even before it hits the stores in Japan! So, consider yourself lucky. Hah.

We were given a hundred dollars each to spend and I got myself a few tops and a wool blazer! For now, I won’t come to a press event that doesn’t entitle to a shopping spree! Kidding, or at least have fancy drinks and food like they do.

It was my first time to UNIQLO and I have to say, it provides the best service to its customers. (I’m not saying this because of the shopping spree) Although, I must say the repeated greetings is too much, the staff were really friendly and knowledgeable. What surprises me most was the quality of the products, really good despite having an affordable price tag.

UNIQLO Ion Orchard opens today! A specially designed Tote Bag from UNIQLO that will be given out to customers, who spend above $100 on a single receipt! This bag is not available for purchase on its own and is available while stocks last, specifically for customers of the ION Orchard store.

MYKROMAG ISSUE 003 2009.

It’s been 3 issues already and I still feel the same way I do since the beginning. (Which I’m glad I dragged Ridhwan into this so I won’t be the only one in Singapore crying tears of joy. Heh.) I was gratified and still am to be part of this pool of talents, to be given the opportunity. Definitely something to be proud of, I’m thankful than ever. Issue 003 was by far the most hectic, I’m sure the franticness doesn’t plan to stop at this issue, more to come?

The Mykromag Blog will launch once again with new layout-- with Ridhwan and me as Editors.

Do check out the latest issue of MYKROMAG, now online!

THE HBIC IDEOLOGY.

The picture doesn’t have much relevance to this post, but it sends the message across.

"Don't go too fast. Because of reality television, everyone imagines they can just be a fashion designer, photographer, or model. That's not the way things go. Learn your craft."-- A quote by the HBIC from the upcoming The Teen Vogue Handbook: Guide to Careers in Fashion.

That quote, was the prĂ©cis of my frustrations when discussing the local fashion industry. Who am I to evaluate the individual rights to hound their passion? Anyway, did you want to be in the industry because a) It feels right to do it. b) After watching the entire season of project runway c) Ashley Isham’s rag to riches fairytale story.

Option B and C seems to be the most popular answer. I feel that while Ashley’s story was very inspiring, it only misleads my community to think that the only acceptable way for a guy to be effeminate or gay is to be a fashion designer. Thus, that explains the increase of you-know-what in local Fashion schools.

In the past (before the hype of Ashley Isham), relatives would be disgusted if they were told that ‘ I was doing fashion’, my mom would only say that I was enrolled in an art institution. Did we know anything about the designer before he made a guest appearance on ANTM? Will Singapore recognize his achievements if not for his appearance on a reality show?

Back to the picture, did u see how Anna is looking at Kanye? That is exactly how I look at some of my peers. Anna Wintour made me realise that i should not compare myself to anyone else because, me and you are two different individual. Anna Wintour is not Anna Dello Russo. I do not invest in things i do not understand. Anna Wintour a high-school dropout, work her way up the ladder of success, as for Kanye, his already-famous status gave him leeway to magically appear as part of the industry. I do not respect people as such.

That’s all.
